Propane Cylinder Refill, Delivery & Propane Tank Installation

Whether your propane stove runs out mid-cooking or a backup generator needs fuel before a storm, running short on propane is never convenient. Halstead Quinn has supplied propane tanks to Westchester County homeowners and businesses for over 80 years. Our Anova tank monitoring system alerts us when you need a refill so you never run out. We replace, refill, rent, install and service propane tanks of all sizes (see below for more information).
Propane Cylinder Replacement and Refill
Two options are available depending on the cylinder and your schedule.
Replacement Once you become our propane delivery customer we will come to your home or place of business to install our propane tanks, and disconnect an old one for the prior provider to come and pick up.
Refill is the right choice when you own a larger or specialty cylinder and want to keep it. We will come to you to refill it. You can also stop by out Mount Kisco location Monday-Friday 9am-5pm to refill your small portable cylinders used with generators, patio heaters, and outdoor appliances.
Not sure which option fits your cylinder? Call (914) 666-3200 and we will walk you through it.
Propane Cylinder Sizes We Handle
Halstead Quinn works with the full range of propane cylinder sizes:
- 24 gallon (100 lb) — typically used for larger commercial grills, forklifts, temporary construction heaters, and high-demand portable appliances

- 56 gallon (240lb) — typically used residentially for a single appliance (fireplace, water heater, backup generator)

- 120 gallon (500 lb) — usually a residential tank for powering one or two appliances (fireplace, water heater, clothes dryer, small generator)

- 500 gallon (2100 lb) — standard size for permanent whole-home heating — powering furnaces, water heaters, and cooking for an entire house
Larger bulk tanks for residential or commercial propane delivery are also available — contact us to discuss sizing and installation.
Cylinder Rental
Not ready to purchase a cylinder outright? Rental tanks are available for short-term and seasonal use. This is a practical option for construction sites needing temporary heat, seasonal outdoor food service, or events requiring portable propane setups. Rental cylinders are inspected, tested, and delivered ready to use.
Commercial Cylinder Supply
Restaurants, food trucks, caterers, and facilities managers can set up a regular supply account. Instead of managing individual exchanges, commercial customers receive scheduled deliveries of filled cylinders and a consistent pickup of empties. Invoicing is straightforward, and the same family-owned team that has served Westchester for over 80 years handles every account directly. We provide propane for restaurants, dry cleaners, hotels, office buildings, country clubs, town pools, business backup generators, and more.
At Halstead Quinn, commercial accounts are not routed through a call center — you deal with the same people every time.
Propane Tank Installation
New to propane, or replacing a tank that's past its service life? We handle propane tank installation throughout Westchester for both residential and commercial properties.
We'll assess your property, recommend the right tank size based on your square footage and appliances, and coordinate the full installation — permits, placement, hook-up, and safety inspection. Above-ground and underground tanks are both options depending on your lot and local zoning.
Tank sizing is one area where getting it right upfront saves real money. Too small, and you're paying for more frequent deliveries. Too large for your usage, and you're tying up capital in a tank that rarely drops below half. We'll give you a straight answer on what makes sense for your situation.
Free estimates are available for all new tank installations.
Frequently Asked Questions

-
What size propane cylinder do I need for my grill?
Most residential propane gas grills use a standard 20lb cylinder (also called a "5-gallon tank"). We do not exchange these types of small tanks but are happy to refill them for you if you stop by Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. If your grill is built into an outdoor kitchen or connected to a larger permanent setup, it may be plumbed to a bulk tank rather than a portable cylinder — see our propane delivery page for those options.
